The United States of Disconnection
From Empathy to Extremism—How Narcissistic Abuse is Tearing America Apart and the Way Forward
What if America’s cultural crisis isn’t just political—it’s relational?
In this bold and timely book, psychotherapist Darren Elliott reframes political extremism, social fragmentation, and online toxicity through the lens of narcissistic abuse. Drawing from years of clinical practice and lived experience, Elliott explores how narcissistic dynamics—gaslighting, blame-shifting, emotional immaturity—are playing out on a national scale.
The United States of Disconnection doesn’t pathologize—it contextualizes. This is not about diagnosing politicians. It’s about seeing clearly how personal trauma and cultural dysfunction mirror each other. From MAGA to cancel culture, from church trauma to family estrangement, this book offers a powerful framework for healing our relationships—and our country.
